Feed The World
In a land of milk and honey like the U.S. of A., it’s shocking some kids don’t get enough to eat. Luckily, there are a lot of ways to help (aside from donning a green getup and robbing the rich à la Robin Hood). One such way is to support the efforts of Share Our Strength, the nation’s leading antihunger group.
The charity works to feed needy kiddos by hosting Taste of the Nation, an annual benefit in which prestigious chefs cook up gourmet eats for philanthropists. The South Florida version takes place this Thursday. This is the first year the event combines the best of Broward and Dade, so it’s bound to be bigger than ever.
There’ll be noteworthy names aplenty, including chefs Allen Susser, Timon Balloo of Sugarcane Raw Bar Grille, and Michael Schwartz of Restaurant Michael Schwartz. Also on the roster: Swine Southern Table, Tongue and Cheek, Joe’s Stone Crab, Red the Steakhouse, the Dutch at W South Beach, and lots of other notable eateries.
And the grub ain’t all. You can take part in a silent auction, chill in the lounge, sip spirits, watch cooking competitions, and head home with a swag bag.
When one in five American kids still faces hunger, eating up is the least you can do.
The event runs from 7 to 10 p.m. (VIP starts at 6) at the Loews Miami Beach (1601 Collins Ave., Miami Beach). Tickets cost $125 per person, or $250 for VIP.
