Drunk on Vivaldi
It may not be Oktoberfest yet, but Summerfest is happening right now. Not too familiar with Summerfest? How about Mozart or Vivaldi? Each year Summerfest hosts an acclaimed European string orchestra for a one-month cultural exchange. This year it is the famed I Musici Estensi Chamber Orchestra of Italy. In addition to works by the abovementioned composers, selections by Rutter, Bizet, Vitali, and Cadario will be performed, and violin soloists Laszlo Pap and Claudia Cagnassone will be featured. Admittedly a concert will not alter your judgment like a lager, but your brain will thank you. It will thank you even more if you take full advantage of Summerfests offerings, such as master classes and two performances today in Miami. At 3:00 p.m. the I Musici Estensi Chamber Orchestra will play at the Miami Beach Community Church (1620 Drexel Ave.; 305-538-4511), after which it will be moving west to the Miami Lakes Methodist Church (14800 NW 67th Ave.; 305-364-6100) for an 8:00 p.m. concert.
Sun., July 16, 8 p.m.
