If University of Miami and Duke could metaphorically meet in a standoff, one might turn to the other and say, “We’re not so different, you and I.” Indeed, both are private schools with tuition that probably costs way too much, and in the sports world, both have one historically good sport that brings in equal amounts of national recognition and free Nike jumpsuits. But there is one major difference between Miami Hurricanes football and Duke Blue Devils basketball: Duke basketball isn’t cool, and it never has been. Other college football programs used to aspire to be Miami, but no one really wants to be Duke. They just want to beat them. And that’s what makes beating Duke just a little bit special. For coach Frank Haith’s under-performing — though not unexciting, truth be told — Miami Hurricanes basketball team, a victory over the top-ranked Duke Blue Devils would be a very pretty and distracting bit of window dressing on what has been a disappointing year. David will take on Goliath this Sunday at BankUnited Center.
