Dance for Three
Miami City Ballets Program III will deliver tragedy, comedy, and romance in pointe shoes, dress shoes, high heels, and even bare feet. This installment of the companys 25th anniversary season features MCBs premiere of Promethean Fire, considered to be choreographer Paul Taylors response to the events on September 11, 2001. And the ballet company will look to its heritage with George Balanchines Scotch Symphony, which is inspired by the sylphs and pastoral landscapes characteristic of ballets Romantic era. Its a fitting choice considering MCB artistic director Edward Villella achieved stardom as a dancer in Balanchines New York City Ballet. The program will also include Nine Sinatra Songs, in which Twyla Tharps brand of contemporary moves meets athletic exhibition and ballroom dance. For Scotch, dancers will pirouette to live accompaniment from Opus One Orchestra.
Feb. 11-12, 8 p.m.; Sun., Feb. 13, 2 p.m., 2011
