Ever since I saw Carrie Bradshaw sip her signature cosmo for the first time, I scratched that cocktail from my list. It just became so cliché, like gold-plated name necklaces and men named Big. Although I do enjoy watching Sex and the City (I have the DVDs), I never want to jump on the trendy show bandwagon. So when I wandered into Houstons on a recent Tuesday evening, I winced when the pert, blond bartender offered me a cosmo. No, said Jacquelyn Gill, who is model-pretty in a fresh-scrubbed Noxzema sort of way. Ill make it with pomegranate juice instead of cranberry, and youll love it.
I watched as she poured a generous amount of Stoli vodka (two ounces), half as much Cointreau, the juice of half a lime, and a splash of POM Wonderful into a shaker. She shook it vigorously and poured the ruby red cocktail into a martini glass garnished with an orange peel. The splintered ice in the beverage shimmered as I brought the fragrant beverage to my lips. Okay, Jacquelyn, you were right: The pomegranate cosmopolitan is delicious, tart, and not at all trite. The drink costs $13. Call 305-529-0141, or visit www.hillstone.com.
