Comedy Gone Viral
It’s easy to blame Jenny McCarthy for the sins of the anti-vaccine movement. Recent outbreaks of preventable diseases like whooping cough have many scientists and doctors scrambling to assure the public at large that vaccines are safe for their children. But McCarthy, who in 2008 added “anti-vaccine activist” to her list of careers (model, actress, TV host, author), is just one voice, albeit a loud one in a pretty package. Shouldn’t we blame instead the thousands of parents taking medical advice from their TV sets, not their health professionals? Wouldn’t we all be better off if we left the medical stuff to doctors, and the making-people-laugh stuff to comedians? This weekend, McCarthy swings into town with a handful of her funny friends for Dirty Sexy Funny, a comedy show starring McCarthy as well as Lynne Koplitz, Tiffany Haddish, Justine Marino, Tammy Pescatelli, and Paula Bel. The show promises a “racy comic romp,” something to remind you of the lovable, precontroversy McCarthy in the era of Singled Out. Admit it: You’re still a little hot for her after all these years, even if she might expose your nephew to the supervirus that destroys humanity.
