Miami Dade College and the Italian Film Festival will kick off Cinema Italia 2007, a free screening series that will bring classic flicks to the Tower Theater. Tonights offering is Fellinis masterpiece La Dolce Vita. Screenings are scheduled for the third Friday of every month, and the series will run until December. Call 305-643-8796, or visit www.mdc.edu.
But the boot isnt getting all of the big-screen love this weekend; Italys best known island is the subject of a fest of its own. The second annual Sicilian Film Festival began on Wednesday, May 16, and continues through Sunday, May 20, at venues all over the city. Tonight from 5:30 to 9:00, the fest touches down at the Miami Beach Cinematheque (512 Espanola Way, Miami Beach) for screenings of short films by Andrea Di Falco, documentaries by Alberto Castiglione, and animation by Razam Hijazi. Admission is free, and theres an after-screening, reservations-required dinner at Hosteria Romana, an Italian restaurant just down the street.
