Charity Done Right
Alonzo Mourning is to Miami what athleticism is to basketball what achievement is to schooling or what inspiration is to art. So give thanks that Zo is also a leader and that his former running mate, D-Wade, recognizes a good thing when he sees it.
A straight-up tradition at this point, Zo's Summer Groove teams up this year with Wade's World Foundation to inundate Miami with five days of fun, food, music, and comedy all in the name of positive social change. While politicians shake hands and pose for pics, Zo gets the job done. Just like on the court.
This Thursday, the main event will be held at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa. At $1,000 a head, the ZSG Golf Classic is expensive for the average person to participate, but hey, the cash is going to the kids. On Friday, catch Cedric the Entertainer at the Hard Rock Live (1 Seminole Way, Hollywood); Saturday will bring the big, star-studded benefit dinner (also at the Hard Rock); and on Sunday, dont miss the free block party outside the American Airlines Arena (601 Biscayne Blvd., Miami), followed by an all-star game. Tickets for the matchup come as cheap as five bucks.
After 13 years in the charity game, Zos Summer Groove is only getting better.
