After making seven studio albums, Felix da Housecat can't be blamed for trying something different. This year, when he released his eighth album, Son of Analogue, he did so via the April issue of Mixmag -- a first for both the DJ-producer and the publication. Mixmag has always featured a cover-mounted mix CD by world-famous DJs, but this marked the first time the magazine had released a proper studio album. It was also a guarantee for Felix that his record would reach his target audience. And in the age of iTunes and peer-to-peer file sharing, reaching out to new listeners has become increasingly difficult. That being said, the unconventional release meant if you weren't a Mixmag subscriber, you didn't get a copy. But don't worry -- Felix hasn't forgotten about the rest of us. The website sonofanalogue.com promises a forthcoming "director's cut" available as a free exclusive download. In the meantime, there's his latest collaboration with Pete Tong, All Gone Ibiza 11, featuring the likes of Cajmere, Munk, and Erick Morillo, to tide you over. You can also catch the cat in action -- alongside resident DJs Ross One, Jessica Who, and Contra -- at LIV this Wednesday.
