Ever since Chris Parnell and Andy Samberg busted out that Lazy Sunday skit for Saturday Night Live, weve wondered what would be an appropriate Miami alternative. Getting bizzaked and watching The Chronicles of Narnia sounded like fun, but cupcakes, Mr. Pibb, and Red Vines just wont satisfy our Sabbath cravings. So for our local lazy Sunday, after the ´dro, were gonna mack on some Miami Beach brunch, yo. Maybe al fresco. Word to your mother.
For a ridiculous spread at an incredible deal, pull up a chair at SushiSamba Dromo (600 Lincoln Rd.). You could order from the $20 Miami Spice menu, but youd miss out on the Sambabrunch, which offers the yummiest churros this side of an amusement park. The restaurant offers three variations: The Feijoada features meaty Brazilian stew. The Asa Gohan presents Japanese favorites. But were here for the Continental, which offers sushi (like the Sunday samaba roll), eggs Benedict, and buttermilk pancakes. Catch a midafternoon buzz on the pika pikas, a combination of sparkling sake and guava juice. Brunches range from $12 to $15 per person.
The brunch at Marks South Beach (1120 Collins Ave.) is prepared with fancy ingredients like quail eggs and caperberries. The raspberry-and-cream-cheese-stuffed French toast costs a mere $9. Sweet-potato gnocchi with sage brown butter, Parmesan cheese, and hazelnuts costs $16. You can try exotic culinary treats, or stick to the more traditional Miami Spice menu, which offers littleneck clams, pan-seared salmon, and a crème brûlée of the day. It doesnt offer brunch, but the Miami Spice lunch at Fifty Restaurant & Lounge (444 Ocean Dr.) includes an incredibly pretty ahi tuna Cobb salad with black-bean succotash, and ends with tres leches Boston cream pie. Hell yeah. Call 305-532-2441, or visit www.fiftyonline.com.
