What do you do when you’re a male fan of the animated TV series My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and you’re looking to have some fun in the sun with other like-minded individuals? Join the Bronies of South Florida meetup group, of course! The group boasts more than 200 members, and they’ve had meetups throughout South Florida, including panel sessions at local conventions such as Florida Supercon.
Bronies in other parts of the country might be relegated to having their pony parties at boring restaurants or one another’s homes. But this is Miami, where My Little Pony fanboys can meet, greet, trot, and gallop on the beach.
Enter the Bronies of South Florida’s next meetup: the Summertime Beach Party at Crandon Park (6747 Crandon Blvd., Key Biscayne) this Saturday.
In the spirit of friendship, the event is a potluck, and organizers are asking for the usual fare: hamburgers and buns, plastic utensils, and sodas. The organizers are apparently partial to Mountain Dew — “anypony” who brings some is promised a hug.
Previous New Times forays into the ponyverse have revealed a group that enjoys MLP for its animation, great story lines, characters, and emphasis on a positive message of inclusion and friendship. The Summertime Beach Party looks like just the happening to find out more about Brony culture (and the culture of the Pegasisters, female MLP fans).
No word on whether we can get them to Prancercise.
The party takes place from noon to 6 p.m. Park admission costs $6 per vehicle, so it’s wise to find some carpool buddies to, uh, hoof it together. For the complete potluck wish list and more South Florida Brony fun, visit meetup.com/bronies-of-south-florida
