Rock star, star artist whats the difference now? If youre former Psychedelic Furs frontman Richard Butler, probably not much. The man who gave John Hughes the title song to his seminal film Pretty in Pink is still touring and writing new material with an updated version of the Furs, and hes also returning to the art he mastered before music: painting. Curious? See his work this Thursday at the Harold Golen Gallery as part of the group show Theres Still Life.
The international exhibition launched in London and comes to Miami for a very short stint, hanging in Golen until Sunday and then moving into the Scope Art Fair next Tuesday. Mauger Modern curated the show and challenged the invited artists to reinvent the tradition of still-life in painting, drawing, and sculpture. After Butler, the biggest draw is perhaps Hungarian artist Geza Szollosis strange taxidermied pets, which appear realistic and fantastic all at once.
