Books and Books and More Books
Contrary to popular belief, Miami is an incredibly literary city. We have University of Wynwood bringing poets to town year-round. We have Books & Books, an indie bookstore with near-daily author events. And we have the annual Miami Book Fair International at Miami Dade College (NE Fourth Street at NE Second Ave., Miami), during which South Florida’s literati come out to play with scores of authors who turn the Magic City into a publishing mecca — if only for a week or so. This year, however, Miami is getting extra attention, thanks to Tom Wolfe, whose new novel, Back to Blood, is set right here. Wolfe is arguably the biggest name to grace this year’s festival, but he’s far from the only familiar face. Pulitzer Prize winner and MacArthur Fellow Junot Diaz will promote his latest, This Is How You Lose Her; feminist icon Naomi Wolf will talk about the science of ladyparts in her latest tome, Vagina; and you might also recognize a few names from your childhood, including Goosebumps author R.L. Stine (who’s finally written a book for adults) and his colleague in tween horror, Christopher Pike.
