Better than eBay
Instead of investing in another Ikea piece that wont last past your lease, go treasure hunting at a major antique and vintage show this weekend. The Original Miami Beach Antique Show at the Miami Beach Convention Center is one of the largest upscale antiquing events in the nation, attracting international heirloom hawkers from as far away as Vienna, Tokyo, and Sydney. Think of it as a museum where you can buy history -- 17th-century furniture, Tiffany glass, and KPM porcelain. Well, some people can buy; the rest of us can look. One $15 ticket is valid for all five days of the show, from January 31 to February 4. Todays hours run from noon to 9 p.m. For tickets and more information, visit www.dmgantiqueshows.com.
For vintage modern furniture and fine art, check out the Miami Modernism Show & Sale at the James L. Knight Center (400 SE Second Ave., Miami). Encompassing the entire 20th Century, the show will feature Art Deco jewelry, clothing, prints, and more. It is open to the public on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. One $10 ticket is good for both days. Call 954-563-6747, or visit www.miamimodernism.net.
