Why wait till December for an imported artsy party when we have the Wynwood Art Fair boasting a brand of creative muscle all our own? This three-day urban happening a term Allan Kaprow invented to describe the inspired shenanigans at George Segals farm celebrates every conceivable form of artistic medium in the 305.
On stages and under tents along NW Sixth Avenue, between 23rd and 29th streets, expect interactive and performance-based works by local and international artists. There will be a giant cartoon balloon procession led by local chucklehead collective FriendsWithYou, guaranteed to lift the spirits with its inimitable brand of inflatable merriment. Look out for Rita Ackermanns Flash Mob in Reverse performance, Clifton Childrees Boise Bob and His Backyard Band, Juan Griegos Hug Machine piece, and Jordan Marinov and Korhan Basarans Marinov Dance of the Intimacies Project.
The Wynwood Art Fair also has ethnic food vendors, graffiti painters, wandering performers, and a hodgepodge of site-specific installations to delight the eyes. Proceeds will benefit the Sundari Foundation, which operates the Lotus House Womens Shelter.
