Your office Christmas party is likely a slightly buttoned-down affair. After all, your boss is gonna be bellying up to the bar beside you, so you dont want to say or do anything too embarrassing. Besides, in these rough economic times, do you really need a reason to go job hunting? We think not. We suggest you put on your best behavior and demurest party dress for the work affair. Titter politely at your co-workers shitty jokes, and compliment their spouses shoes. Then save the real holiday celebration for Saturday night at Sweat Records (5505 NE Second Ave., Miami). The indie record store will be hosting its annual Sweat Stocking Stuffer beginning at 8 p.m. That gives you a chance to stock up on sweet stuff for your coolest, nearest, and dearest. Of course therell be music and music-related merch aplenty, but a selection of funky and unique local vendors will also offer their goodies for sale. Either way, you are guaranteed to walk away with some one-of-a-kind nifty gifties. And you can do it all while sipping vegan eggnog and noshing on cupcakes. Sweet!
Stick around until 9 p.m., when the goths will come out in full force for the Death of a Xmas Party next door at Churchills. Expect lots of guyliner and other crimes against makeup, as well as live performances by Dino Felipe, This Heart Electric, Teepee, Drowning the Virgin Silence, plus Joy Division tribute band 3 One G, expressing the tortured holiday angst burbling in your heart. Admission is seven bucks, unless you already spent more than $10 at Sweat in which case, your admission is free! Let it be known: This festivus for the rest of us is open to partiers 18 and older.
