Teams in baseballs National League never played those in the American League, and vice versa, with the exception of the World Series. But in 1997, in an effort to drum up excitement, MLB instituted inter-league play, wherein matchups are scheduled at various points in the year. Baseball purists despise it to this day, but for casual fans, inter-league play adds some spice to the long season.
The National League has traditionally taken a beating since its inception, but for a few notable exceptions. One of them happens to be the Florida Marlins, who lead all NL teams with 127 all-time wins in inter-league play. Theyll face off against the curiously named Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, a 160-win powerhouse that has recently become middling. The showdown between inter-league titans takes place Monday at Sun Life Stadium.
