Almost Ready For Some Football
Traditionally the third game of the NFL preseason is when teams leave their starters out the longest to measure their preseason progress. As of this writing, the Miami Dolphins have had a contentious start, racking up a 1-1 record with early preseason stand-out moments being Dustin Keller’s 20-yard-plus reception, Lamar Miller’s first-touch fumble, Ryan Tannehill’s four-interception practice, and, our favorite, the yearly ritual of rookie penis-shaped haircuts.
There’s a lot of excitement around new offensive additions Mike Wallace, Keller, and Brandon Gibson, but the changes that will have the most impact on the Fins’ 2013-14 performance were the players lost during the offseason, Jake Long and Reggie Bush. Saturday’s matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won’t really mean much of anything, particularly since preseason success is no measure for regular-season wins. Still, it’s time for football, and getting a sneak peek at this season’s team should be enough to hold Dolfans over for the next three weeks, until the regular season starts.
