A Real Trip
Let’s be real. Some of the best ideas in the world are born out of bottles. Australian-born comedian Caroline Reid certainly owes a lot to a wild night and some vodka.
One night, she dressed up as a Pan Am air hostess and had some friends over for a party. But as the liquor kept flowing and the fun turned up, the familiar words got twisted and a new ego was born.
Now, Reid is more recognizable in her flashy, sequined ’60s getup, and fans all over the world flock to be loved and berated by the larger-than-life “hostess with the mostess”: Pam Ann.
That doesn’t mean Reid is living a double life. She thinks the shtick works only because the character and the personality are so organic and real to her own life.
“I guess it’s a vehicle for me to say what I’m thinking on a stage that I can’t say in my real life,” she says.
She’s taking that vehicle all over the United States for Pam Ann’s Cockpit! USA Tour 2013. She’s calling it like it is and working harder than ever to share her special brand of insanity with new audiences.
“I like the challenge,” she says. “I just got my green card, so it just all means a lot to me on every level.”
Pam Ann will swoop in and take control of the Colony Theatre (1040 Lincoln Rd., Miami Beach) for two nights, this Thursday and Friday, and she honestly couldn’t be more excited — for a few reasons.
“I had the best times in Miami, and I mean, I’m sorry, everyone’s hot there,” she says. “You can’t come there with low self-esteem — or a boyfriend. You just need to come on your own in dental floss.”
