In a perfect world, big, ugly chain restaurants wouldnt be raking in money hand over fist. In a perfect world, the American diet wouldnt regularly include heaping portions of deep-fried bullshit counterbalanced by so-called healthful salads drenched in dressing thats the caloric equivalent of a Snickers milkshake. In a perfect world, all of our food would be prepared so as to maintain the maximum nutritional value, would be made from the finest locally produced natural ingredients, and would taste better and be more satisfying than even the most decadently delicious three-patty grease ball. Obviously we live in a far-from-perfect world. But you can pretend youre in the culinary Garden of Eden this Sunday at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. At the Slow Food Miami Exotic Fruit Brunch, members of the Magic Citys yummiest culinary organization invite you to taste their vision.
The shebang kicks off at 10 a.m. with a tour of the Whitman Fruit Pavilion. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., its all about the eats. In the visitor centers ballroom, students from Le Cordon Bleu Miami will serve the finest tropical bounty. Just a few of the offerings: baked banana French toast, mango a rios with Bee Heavens organic eggs, and jackfruit-coconut cake with cardamom rum anglaise.
