This is a sham of a restaurant compared to what it was under the prior owner. THE PIT epitomizes the axiom about restaurants: the quality of the food is inversely proportional to the amount of money spent on renovations and expanasion. What was an excellent out of this world barbecue joint has become a has been, undercooked, often cold, barbecue restaurant. I used to stop here when I'd go bike riding in Shark Valley. Now I just shake my head everytime I drive by and think what it once was. Awful.
Best Barbecue - 2011
The Pit has kept the flavor of PURE SMOKE and plenty of food at a reasonable price! The place is CLEAN and invites you to dine outdoors to enjoy Florida living. Today everyone is welcome!!! The only thing that bothers some people is the fact that today The Pit belongs to Cuban Americans and may I say BLONDE and BLUE eyes!!! For those that want to experience what Florida use to be and what HOME cooking is all about drive WEST on 8 Street and find THE PIT BBQ you will enjoy the FOOD and the Trip!!
It never ceases to to amaze me what passes as good, or even edible, barbecue in Miami. The Pit is simply terrible. Like Canes78 said - it used to be very good, but that's simply not true anymore. Best stick to Peoples, Mama Lucies, or find out where James is parking is cue wagon.
Have you actually been there in the last couple of years? It used to be the best, but it has changed hands and sadly gone downhill.
