We want to work on our Charlie Crist-grade tans without having to play beach-blanket bingo in the shadows of the high-rises that dominate most of Miami Beach. In fact, many of us wouldn't mind a beach experience sans the concrete, snowbirds, and tourists that are hard to avoid on most local sands. Thankfully, there's North Shore Open Space Park, a scenic stretch of sun-bathing-worthy shores right in the middle of Miami Beach that hasn't been given over to developers. Instead, there are picnic tables, shady trees, lots of greenery, and relatively clean restrooms. Plus the metered public parking lots across the street never seem full. It might not have that certain air of manufactured glamour where the views to the west are as artificial as half the topless chicks, but sometimes it's nice to leave the Versace thong or Armani Speedo at home and get in touch with one of the few things left on Miami Beach vaguely resembling nature.

hasnt been gtven over to developers just the dogs! The picinic tables under the shady trees have been removed and the area fenced in for the dogs. Ofcourse theres always the tables in front of rhe relatively clean bathrooms.Thanks!!!!

Sad, the city of Miami Beach has decided to put a concrete skate park in the "North Shore Open Space Park". So I guess they will have to change the name of the park also.I support a Skate Park, but not in the only oceanfront green park that we have in the city. Please contact your Commissioners!

@Rick Kendle

Where do you get your information? Not so and you have been blasting the commission here and on YELP. You need to get your facts straight...there will Never Be a skate park in NSOSP...

Great choice for Best Beach. If you don't crave the hippest vibe in Miami, but want a really nice one - this is the beach! I love the native flora and the park is full of facinating birds. It is hopping on nice weekends - mostly friendly families who live in the neighborhood - but on weekdays its pretty empty. This park is a rare open-space treasure and one of the reasons I live in North Miami Beach.
