Readers' Choice: Five Guys Burgers and Fries

Burgers are big — as in big across-the-board sales during stressed economic times. There are big profits for burger barons, and big-shot chefs putting 'em on their big-price restaurant menus. Govind Armstrong and the folks at Table 8 took things a step further by opening 8 oz. Burger Bar in South Beach. It isn't difficult to locate a great burger in this town — if someone claimed that Clarke's, Kingdom, or Grill on the Alley made the best one, we really wouldn't argue. But Burger Bar's eponymous eight-ouncer brings a few distinctions to the table. The beef is culled from hormone-free cows; ground in-house from Black Angus sirloin, tri-tip, short rib, and chuck; and grilled over live oak. Then it's plunked onto a soft, fresh brioche bun. House-cured bacon, house-pickled pickles, hothouse cucumber relish, and homemade heirloom tomato ketchup are among a long list of cool accouterments; there are lots of cheeses to choose from too. Price for the signature burger is $10, a dollar or two less for those culled from turkey or Niman Ranch lamb. Burger Bar bops from 5 p.m. to midnight, and until 2 in the morning Thursday through Saturday. You're gonna like this place. Big time.

The reviews are written by the restaraunts who advertise in the NT. They have to be! This place sucks...do not go...It will be closed by Decemeber...Only tourists get trapped in this shit hole. 5 Guys...better deal and better service!

On the beach you can try Beer & Burger Joint on Bay Road, Five Guys and Cheeseburger Baby both on Washington (oddly enough accross the street from each other kinda like Pat's & Gino's in Philly) I also find the burgers are pretty good at the Nexxt Cafe on Lincoln Road.

Ok, got it that I should avoid 8 oz. So who truly has the best burger/service combo? I'm new to town and don't want to waste my money or my time. Thanks!

about 8 oz burger on alton and 9th is the worst service and over priced burguer and the ambience, was, all the kitchen staff one by one crowded talking to the bartender, we had to wait until the server came back from the outside section, and could figure out that we needed something , the person that brought us the drinks, was maybe a bussgirl, cause after she brought the drinks, she was bringing some toilet papers to the restroom, and the server was not interested at all i any thing but when he brought the check, we asked the server and the food runner for hot sauce and they never brought it, the 15 dlls burguer that doesnt even come with fries i asked twice medium well, it came after 30 min bloody as med rare nobody ever came after that just till we asked for the check.

VERY DISSAPOINTING! Service was terrible, hamburgers were nominal at best, and overall value severely lacking. Definitely recommend skipping this restaurant.

The only award 8oz should be participating in is: most hype. I eat at least one burger a week and i've tried this place twice..four thumbs down. i've praised the NT for their recommendations but this time they've got it WRONG.

How did the New Times arrive at this conclusion?

I think a recount is definitely in order.

Service is TERRIBLE! Avoid this place at all costs. After waiting a half hour we left.

Who did they pay off to get ranked as the best? The burgers at this place aren't all that and the service is horrible. New Times got this one way wrong.
