Best Band Miami 2009 - Awesome New Republic

Readers' Choice: Radioboxer

To call these guys simply a "rock band" would be woefully leaving out a large chunk of their musical stew. Disco, soul, funk, and a large dose of the Purple One all figure into the sound. Still, it rocks. And though they broke up for a minute a couple of years ago, it didn't last long, and ever since then, they've been stepping up their game, touring and appearing at industry requisite events such as CMJ and South by Southwest. Around here, though, the band remains one of the most universally loved live acts, creating an instant dance party within the first few bars. Here's further proof they're in tune with the cultural Zeitgeist: Not only did they put their recent full-length, Rational Geographic Vol. 1, up for free download on their website, but also they somehow got Blair Waldorf herself — Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester — to record a cover of their song "Birthday." For real. OMG!

When are these people gonna be on TV again? Damn I love them. Saw them on Letterman, and I do not like Letterman. I'd watch it again for them. Dish Network is what we got. Please let me know.

What does an eight year old boy, his dad, his mom, and his aunt all have in common? Aside from being relatives, they have started their own rock band called "C~OF~W" which stands for "Cup of Wine". The nine month old band was created and founded by their band leader, Elternative, the eight year old musical genius has started a revolution. Elternative writes his own songs, plays his own guitar riffs, jams to the sound of his own music genre he calls "Rebel Rock" due to his lyrics about politics, the economy, the manipulation of television on today's society as well as its effect on parents, children, teens, and the world. He writes about things that are relevant to today's world, to the critics of hysteria and truth that is hidden beneath the shallowness of television. His dad, Oggur P.C., co-founded the band with his son, the two would play together in his son's room everyday and explore the mysteries of being musicians, since both have never taken a single music lesson in their lives. Charlie L.K., which happens to be Elternative's mom was forced in her own way to join the duo when their friend bought them a bass and said it would go great with their sound. Charlie a nature photographer only had one thing on her mind which was smashing pictures and creating her own rythme to their dysfunction. Charlie served as their musical expertise and caved in on the whole band thing. Finally, the aunt best known as "La BesT-Tia" which translates into "Best Auntie" or simply by her massive strength at tearing up her dum kit as "The Beast". She was the last member of their puzzle after being trapped in a world where she wasn't allowed to play as hard as she wanted to, here in C~OF~W Land, the harder you play the harder you rock! The duo now has transformed into a foursome. Four different musicians, four different generations, four members of a crazy family. That is how C~OF~W manages to stay together and their passion for the music drives them to pursue their dreams and create music that is out of this world. No one believes the nonsense that comes out of their mouths, their instruments, and their spirits. Four individuals whose presence no one can dismiss or ignore, the longer you push them away, the stronger they come back. They have shined on stages that many haven't yet begun to achieve. This band is dedicated to transform lives with their music as well as their lives. They have even started their own foundation called "The Garage House Foundation" in which they seek to help children reach their dreams and know that the words "You can't do it!" or "You're not good enough" aren't true. They seek to help children and teens break free from negativity and expand their creativity to explore new adventures and take over this world. The saying that "The kids are our future" is true, take Elternative for example, his lyrics and songs have impacted many, including children, teens, parents and teachers. The child revolution has begun and there is no telling where it will end up or how this "fairytale" will end but an uprising has occurred and the sky is no limit to this band or its members. They want people to listen to their music, whether they like it or not, C~OF~W isn't going anywhere. Check their website out at www.cofwrocks.com or visit their myspace page at www.myspace.com/cofwrocks. Give them a chance, take a risk and explore the unknown world with them, that's their only request. Thank You.
