Enough with the coladas and the chain coffee stores. It's time to slow down and drink a nice cup of tea at a place owned by a local. Amate is perfect. Sit in the covered patio on a comfy orange couch or sprawl out in the bamboo-lined outdoor area. The space is a tiki-Zen mashup, but it's a welcome respite in this hardscrabble northeast neighborhood. A giant Buddha statue smiles as you peruse the long list of teas (green, black, infusions, tea with caramel, fruit infusions). They start at $2.95 (a big cup, infused tableside in a French press-like tea contraption), while larger, three-cup options run $3.95. If you're lucky and indecisive about your tea selections, the effervescent Milagro will help you choose a blend. Amate owner Emilia Pena promises to hold poetry, music, and matchmaking nights. She also stocks a small stack of games (checkers, backgammon, Parcheesi) if you're into that sort of thing. If you don't want to participate or mingle, you can always order a cup of Marrakesh mint and hunker down with your laptop: Amate offers free Internet access.

So cute and cozy can't believe it is in Miami feels like something that one would find in California. The feel is fresh and friendly. The tea is amazing, the girl behind the counter took the time to help me pick a tea and I feel I know so much about tea it was a great mini class on the leaves and the entire tea history. I went there after reading about it on line, went with my husband and so glad that we did. finally a place we both can enjoy. We was able to get on line due to the free internet while i was able to read my book. Thanks for bringing such a lovely place to Miami by the way where did you get that Buddha? just adds that special touch to the garden. Thanks

Wow! A true oasis in the city! Tea and cupcakes, what a combo. True blends to complement the humidity found in Miami and cupcakes to ice the palate. Even beach balls running around in their true alma matter color - Orange! What a place, what an environment, whadda atmosphere. You can even come and plug into the web for free. My place close to home, there is no other place like it! Thanks amate for coming into the neighborhood and enhancing our environment with a classy urban joint like yours!

I loved it! I just moved to Miami from New York and missed the small coffee/tea shops that we have in the village. I am so glad that I found this small piece of heaven. I did not know what to expect when I walked in for a reiki seminar last week but was pleasently surprised to find an amazing selection of loose tea from a wide variety of green and black tea to herbals and fruits all served in a french press that is so cute and just perfect. I ordered an orange and spice scone that was amazingly good not too sweet . I must be honest and tell you that I have been sad to have left NY but while I was sipping my cup of tea and breaking my scone I forgot for one second where I was but then again this place made me feel a little more at home. There is a poetry reading next week and can't wait to return, I recommend the exotic Mango and the Lemon Cool Mint, the best tea I have had, even in NY.
