They've got orchids that hang, orchids in pots, even orchids with names. In fact Kerry's grows more orchids than any nursery in the United States. And if you aren't an orchid person, don't worry, because Kerry's is the second largest bromeliad grower in the country, too. Want a Guzmania named Hilda or a Vriesea called Tiffanyç You can cruise to Homestead and pick them up at Kerry's cash-and-carry shop, or check them out online before you go. There's also a section on the Website about how to care for your plants. And if that isn't enough, you can e-mail the orchid (or bromeliad) grower. Not bad for Kerry Herndon, a guy who began with an ornamental plant business he started in his grandmother's back yard during high school. The Homestead native and ag businessman's flower empire now includes facilities in Apopka and Costa Rica. His plants are also sold at retailers like Home Depot and Publix. But Herndon doesn't let the success go to his head. He says of his orchids: "It's basically beautiful broccoli."

I've just bought a couple of your beautiful orchids from one of the Kroger's in the area. They are loaded with sprays of blossoms and buds, so I assume that they've received some excellent fertilizers and possibly hormones. When the blooms are finished, will I be able to save the plants? Will I need to keep up a high level of nutrients, and if so what kind? Thanks for your info,Jan

Beautiful broccoli, Kerry, Kudos to you and your orchids,, I knew that you would be a huge success in the "bromiliads Nursery, but more so in the orchid business that seems to flourish even in the cold weather of North Carolina. I was lucky enough to have an orchid house there, and my orchids survived...with a little help from me of a small ceramic heater, a humidifier and grow lights in the ceiling, and lots of tender love and care. But, because of ill-health, I am now living in Florida, (back where I belong) , and where i have started another orchid garden... i bought a beautiful potted orchid from Publix, and had to let you know that I remembered you, ( and your Silver Vase bromiliads)
