The barbecue at Uncle Tom's is so good that when you get home, expect Fido to jump on you for scraps of leftover ribs. Chances are there won't be much left for your four-legged companion. The place looks like it's stuck in time circa 1948, when it first opened. Walls are adorned with old photographs of Rita Hayworth, Mae West, and Liberace. Tom's is best known for its ribs, hot dogs, pork sandwiches, and corn on the cob, but a new sheriff is giving this place a fresh twist. The new Cuban owner, Alfredo Rosales, is bringing some additional flavor to the menu by adding Latin favorites such as palomilla steak, vaca frita, ropa vieja, tostones, and also seafood. Prices range from $5 to $14. Uncle Tom's still has entertainment, but no longer plays old movies. "We play a lot of music videos from the Seventies, Eighties, and Nineties," says William Marcano, manager. You know, sounds to lick your fingers to.

The new owners killed this place!!! I almost cried when I found out that Uncle Toms was sold and no longer made that AMAZING SAUCE!!! I used to buy a quart of the sauce every time I made bbq at home. Sometimes I would get it piping hot right after it was cooked as the old man used to come in a few times a week just to make that sauce in their kitchen. I wish I would had asked for the recipe before they sold the place. I can still taste it!!! Like we need another mediocre Cuban restaurant in Miami; Jeez! And, this is coming from a son of Cuban exiles. I really miss the old Uncle Toms. If they wanted to recover much of the "prestige", they could have done it without taking away what it was truly known for.

I'm a customer of Uncle Toms Barbecue for over 35 years and I agree that there was a time in which the exquisite quality of this place fell to the ground, but the new management has set its eyes on the recovery of that image , recovering much of the prestige, the hospitality and the quality of everything that surrounds the Uncle Toms. Today, the Uncle Toms is the ideal place to taste the best barbecue in the United States of this I have no doubt.

I have grown up in Miami and North Carolina and Uncle Tom's is definitely not the best barbecue. Try the Peoples Barbecue in Overtown for a South Carolina Mustard barbecue or Redlands Ribhouse for ribs. Uncle Toms used to be good, but since the new owner arrived the bbq is all about the sauce which is mediocre and not about the meat.

Uncle Tom's used to be good southern style bbq. It has been sold and now it's mainly Latin food with a small vestigial selection of southern style bbq. The menu is in Spanish with English subtitles. The sign and the log cabin look are the same, but not much else. Anything you've read about the place is probably about the old Uncle Toms, and doesn't apply to what it is now. We went in and sat down, but the Latin music was so loud we left.

I made the mistake of going here once after it had been sold. The first thing I noticed when I walked in for my take-out order was the heavy smell of disinfectant. The chicken and ribs that I took home were dry and had been reheated from earlier in the evening. The sauce was not BBQ sauce, it was something with some funky latin flavor. I ended up throwing it away!

You gotta be kidding me. I don't know what the stuff is they serve here, but it ain't "barbecue." "Roast-pork-with-some-sort-of-brown-gravy-cue" maybe.

Seriously, this place is bad. Go The Pit, or Shorty's, but pass on Uncle Tom's.

This is the biggest joke...Uncle Tom's shouldn't even be in the top of Barbecue places. I only made the mistake of going there once and found that the "real" BBQ elements of this place had pretty much been replaced with Latin "improvements."

If you actually want BBQ try the Pit (#1 in Dade County), Shivers (#2 a nice place with great ribs), or even Shorty's (which isn't all that great but much, much better than Uncle Tom's. Trust me, save your gas, time, and money and use it to go out to the Pit.

I used to be a chef and I love Barbecue but Shortys beats this place hands down. I just moved to Miami in the last year and I have been trying all of the Barbecue places. I have been to Uncle Tom's a couple of times, the ribs are ok but I had chicken that tasted like it was old and re-heated. The price is a little high and the sauce is not that good. Sorry just being honest.

Im the daughter of the new owner! and its not cuz of that but my dads place does blow shorty's out of the water! I dont eat pork but i love the ribs! its awsome! well whenever your at my dad's ask for me ill be working there all summer! :)

Here here! I live around the corner from this place and it kicks ass. I'm happy for Uncle Tom's (seriously, how has no one changed that name?!) but a little sad we'll have to share with more people now. This blows Shorty's out of the water.

you are full of shit! I know the Old Uncle Tom's and it was nothing like it is know. The staff is so unfrindly and fresh of the boat, they can hardly speak correct Spanish, never mind a lick of English. The old bbq sauce is no longer available, the new stuff sucks to high hell. And to top it off, I've had better food at "Camillus House" for the homeless!

Ana, with my regards, if you want to do many loyal fans of the OLD Uncle Toms (before it was sold to your father) a favor, and if by any chance your father still has the contact information of the old owner or of his family, PLEASE tell him to get the sauce recipe!!! It is worth whatever they ask to purchase it.  There is a legion of people that would kill for that sauce. It is the BEST BBQ sauce that I have EVER tasted!!! And, this is coming from someone that DOES eat a lot of pork and authentic southern style bbq.
