Yo Space Gallery Launches With an Art Sale for "Average Joes"
Like it? Love it? Take it home with you.
The event will be an indoor bazaar where Yo Miami's two resident artists, along with 10 other local artists, will display and sell their creations. Buyers can score anything from original works to limited edition prints and artist merch like apparel and accessories.
And between bouts of retail therapy, Yo Miami intends to keep its guests visually, orally and physically stimulated. (Not like that, perv.) Free hookah and ping-pong will be provided to ensure nobody is left twiddling their thumbs, and the Coolhaus food truck (which is really making the art scene rounds this week) will be parked and ready to serve all taste buds on deck. Adrian Gonzalez of Suenalo, named Best Latin Band by New Times in 2011, will also perform. Best Sunday ever!
"It's something I'm running from A-Z. It's the first of its kind for Yo
Miami," Yuval Ofir, the man behind Yo Miami, said about the launch
According to Ofir, Yo Miami is "an entity bridging creative people with people in need of creativity." The project has been gaining steam since April of 2011, when Ofir decided he wanted to
put together art events in Miami. Much to his surprise, other people wanted to participate in
those events too. Ofir subsequently turned a warehouse owned by his
mother into the project's home base. After months of renovation and
collaboration between artists, Yo Miami is ready for its Yo Space debut.
The Average Joe event, conceptually similar to a garage sale, offers
patrons a unique opportunity. Anyone can walk in and pick up an original
piece of art to give their living space some oomph or offer as a unique
gift. And it gets better -- the selling price for each original item is capped at $250, a rarity in the art world.
Who says sports and art can't be one and the same?
Average Joe Art Sale takes place at Yo Space, 294 NE 62nd Street, Miami; Sunday, June 3, starting at 4 p.m. Visit facebook.com/yospace.
