At most venues in Miami Beach, you might meet a hot chick who will loudly and passionately claim she doesn’t play games. People love saying that on a first date; it makes them seem genuine and stuff. All the while, they’re wrapping you up in some kind of manipulative Jedi mindfuck that plays with your emotions. At least the folks at The Standard Hotel (40 Island Ave., Miami Beach) are honest about their love for game playing. Sunday bingo nights are infamous and attract quite the crowd of cool kids and hip grandmas. And now organizers have added something fresh to the mix. It’s called Queen of Hearts, hosted by the increasingly popular Miami Poker Society.

Every Friday from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Lido Bar, the DJs from Poplife provide the tunes while Miami Poker Society offers tutorials. A two-drink minimum buys you into a game during the no-limit Texas hold ’em tournament. There are nightly, weekly, and monthly prizes, including bar tabs, hotel stays, and spa treatments, so the more regularly you play, the more likely you’ll win something besides a black book full of phone numbers. Cocktails ’n’ cards — sounds like we’ve got a new weekly appointment.
