Jete, pointe, pas de chat.... No, this is not French class. It is ballet. And you don’t need to understand the words to appreciate Miami City Ballet School’s thirteenth annual Student Showcase. The event gives 2006 graduates an opportunity to show their stuff before they begin professional careers. Dancers will perform excerpts from George Balanchine’s jazzy New York-theme ballet Who Cares? and August Bournonville’s Bournonville Italian Suite. Younger students will present Enchanted Forest. Performances are 7:00 p.m. Friday and 2:00 p.m. Sunday. Tickets cost $25.

Those attending Saturday’s performance will spend the evening in style. Following the show, guests will enjoy hors d’oeuvres, a gourmet dinner, an auction, and a party. Did we mention an open bar? The auction gives attendees the opportunity to bid on items such as cruises and restaurant and spa packages. The night will culminate with a DJ and dancing. Tickets cost $125, and all proceeds go to Miami City Ballet scholarship. Call 305-929-7010, or visit www.miamicityballet.org.
