Send those blues packing the last Monday of each month with a free film screening at the lovely, wonderfully hip Standard Hotel. Nestled on that pristine and quiet strip that is the Venetian Causeway, the boutique hotel offers fresh, hipster-ific events, healthful foods, yoga, and, yes, free films. This Monday at 8 p.m., Next: A Primer on Urban Painting will be up on the big screen.
Shown as part of the hotels Arthouse Film series, the documentary explores graffiti as an American export that has affected street cultures all over the world from Brazil to Holland to Japan. In the style of cinema vérité, director Pablo Aravena hits the sidewalk to profile urban art and artists in nine countries. The beat-heavy soundtrack comes courtesy of Sixtoo of mid-90s underground hip-hop fame.
