There are few movies that both men and women can agree upon, and fewer still that both sexes will proudly boast they have seen. But even romance-averse action buffs must admit The Notebook is a rare gem. So who’s responsible for keeping the tissue industry afloat every time the movie reruns on television? Nicholas Sparks, the author of the book from which the film was adapted. If you don’t recognize Sparks from The Notebook, perhaps you’ve read (or seen) Safe Haven, The Lucky One, The Last Song, Dear John, Nights in Rodanthe, A Walk to Remember, or Message in a Bottle. And now, this New York Times bestselling writer returns with The Longest Ride. Romance junkies have the opportunity to meet Sparks as well as snag an autographed copy of his latest novel when he makes an appearance at Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus (300 NE Second Ave., Miami) promptly at 7:30 p.m. this Monday. Go ahead — let your inner fangirl come out. Sparks will engage in a conversation with NBC Miami anchor Jackie Nespral, so your evening will be more interview-style than intimate. To gain entrance, you’ll need to purchase a copy of The Longest Ride ($27) from a Books & Books location or online at booksandbooks.com. It’ll be waiting for you, pre-signed, the night of the event. Each copy comes with entrance for two.
