The Global Revolution

According to Christopher Witecki,’s daily astrological weatherman, “Things don’t have to change; they have to completely change.” He’s talking about the dawning of the Age of Aquarius and how it relates to EarthDance 2008, the world's largest simultaneous music and dance event. “This is not your cheesy, bullshit, granola hippiefest. This is real,” declares local event organizer Theresa Amandi, who will cohost the extravaganza, which takes place simultaneously in 350 countries. Now that’s a global groove.

The Miami piece of all of this features the official preview for Open: Miami, a project to create off-the-grid living spaces from old shipping containers. The party lasts from 3 p.m. to 3 a.m., as 21 DJs spin and hot musicians keep the soul-force strong. Our lineup includes favorites such as Locos por Juana, Agape with Nadia Harris, Fitzroy, and !Mayday!. You can lose yourself in the performance art of Synergy Yoga and The Sasa African Dance Theater. The highlight of the celebration is the global peace prayer — at exactly 7 p.m., each venue will press play on the event theme song while participants meditate on peace and love. Bring chairs and blankets, ’cause this party won’t stop. There’s a $20 entrance fee, or you can RSVP to for $10 admission at the door. Get down with the world dance at Soho Studios.
Sat., Sept. 13, 3 p.m.-3 a.m., 2008
