With its countless film offerings, Cinema Paradiso was founded by those who brought us, according to Guinness World Records, the longest film festival in the world: the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, better known as FLIFF. But the art house has never featured a fest dedicated to Florida’s major attraction — the beach. That changes this weekend when it hosts the first annual Surf Fest.

This Friday through Sunday, Cinema Paradiso will screen surf film classics such as Bruce Brown’s Endless Summer and Endless Summer 2. The fest begins with a 6:15 p.m. screening of Blue Horizon Friday, but attendees will also be able to choose among excellent, lesser-known works such as Brown’s first film, Slippery When Wet, and Fiberglass and Megapixels, a look at the life of professional surf photographers. The fest will also screen National Geographic: Extreme, Ocean Tribe, and Occy: The Occumentary. Enjoy food, drinks, and live entertainment — all free — in the courtyard.
