Miami is a melting pot for many diverse cultures, but our strongest flavors are certainly Latin. One of the most concentrated regions is Hialeah. Were 94 percent Hispanic, and our population is about 250,000, explains William Sanchez, the citys sponsorship coordinator and public relations representative. The unique municipality is the ideal venue for a celebration of Latin culture. Taste all the distinct flavors of our cultural stew at todays Hialeah Hispanic Heritage Celebration. Indoors there will be live music and a parade of local beauties in native dress from more than twenty Hispanic nations. The outdoor area will feature a variety of local bands, a parade of flags, as well as arts-and-crafts vendors selling their indigenous handiwork. Immigrants from just about every country in South America will be preparing delicious food, so visitors can taste the difference between a Colombian and an Argentine empanada. The free celebration will take place today from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Milander Auditorium. Call 305-883-5800.
