Pop, Lock, and Boogaloo

Now in its 14th year, the traveling Pro-Am International Hip-Hop Conference has already tagged two stops — Vegas and San Fran — on its nine-city world tour. This weekend, the fest will make the third, Miami Beach, as breakers, freestyle MCs, graffiti writers, and scratch DJs battle for cash, prizes, and a chance to compete in New York City’s World Championships. Be there when the whole thing jumps off Friday at 7 p.m. with the Prince Markie Dee Honoree Party at the Catalina Hotel, featuring a graff art throwdown and some deep poolside beats. Roll hard again Saturday from 3 to 8 p.m., when the Pro-Am Main Event lands at the Miami Beach Bandshell (Collins Avenue at 73rd Street, Miami Beach) for an aerosol art show, hip-hop karaoke, and dance-offs starring Wild Style’s Ken Swift, Step Up 2’s K-Mel, and Dancing With the Stars’ Zulu Gremlin. Then shift back to the Catalina at 9 p.m. for the all-night afterparty. Finally, get wet and wild during Sunday’s noontime pool party at the Catalina before fast-stepping to Ninth Street at Ocean Drive for a 3 p.m. cypher session with the Deadly Venoms crew. Tickets cost $10 for Friday’s opening party and $20 for Saturday’s main event. Kids 12 and younger get in free. Also, there’s no cover for Sunday events.
Fri., May 14, 7 p.m.; Sat., May 15, 3 p.m.; Sun., May 16, 3 p.m., 2010
