Poker in the Front, Burgies in the Back

The heterosexual man cannot live on eye candy alone. Sure, South Beach rules Miami-Dade (and perhaps the world) in terms of beautiful women, but what about those other manly pursuits: red meat, sports bars, and poker? In these categories, our local paradise has been deficient — until now. The newly opened — and perfectly named — Burger & Beer Joint dropped like an asteroid from the moon into the space beside Joe Allen this summer, bringing with it ten flat-screen TV sets, a beer list longer than the roll call at the U.N., and a ten-pound burger called “the Mother.” (Why is it called the Mother? We don’t know, but we do know we want to suckle it and fall asleep in its meaty bosom.)

And now it has teamed up with the Miami Poker Society to bring us something we guys have been waiting for: a weekly Monday No Limit Texas Hold ’Em Tournament. Pay the $4 buy-in for a chance to win a $150 beer tab while earning points for a seat in next year’s World Series of Poker main event. And even if you lose, Monday Night Football will be screening overhead on a 120-inch monitor, plus there’s always the short cab ride to Collins Avenue for the eye candy. First card will be dealt at 8:30 p.m.
Mondays, 8:30 p.m., 2009
