After trading outfielder Jake Marisnick, minor-league infielder Colin Moran, and a future first-round draft pick to the Houston Astros for pitcher Jarred Cosart, second baseman Kike Hernandez, and minor-league prospect Austin Wates, the Miami Marlins front office thought they’d hit the jackpot. “We’ve always said we’re just trying to get better,” the Marlins’ president of baseball operations, Michael Hill, told the Miami Herald. “We believe in this club and we believe in what they’re capable of doing. Jarred Cosart will help us win more games and to be a better ball club that hopefully winds up with a playoff spot.” A few days later, Cosart gave up four runs on four hits in his Marlins debut, a 5-2 loss against Cincinnati. Shit. Nevertheless, the Fish are still on the hunt for a playoff berth. And if all goes accordingly, a four-game series against the struggling Arizona Diamondbacks should help. The D-Backs are 13.5 games out of first place in the NL East and 11 games shy of the wildcard. As long as they don’t intentionally hit Giancarlo Stanton in the spine with a 95 mph fastball in the ninth inning (feel better, Andrew McCutchen), the Fish should pull away victorious.
