But 45 years ago, Spanish director Luis Buñuel really pissed off his country’s government and the Vatican with his film Viridiana. The 1961 art house flick tells the story of altruistic wannabe nun, Viridiana (Silvia Pinal), whose rape forces her to leave the convent and open a shelter for morally corrupt vagrants who subsequently take over.
