Elsewhere on this site, you can read about Wynwood’s new Thursday-night art walk, organized partly in response to the raging, crowded party that the neighborhood’s Second Saturday Art Walk has become. Critics complain that Second Saturdays attract partiers, not art lovers, people who are more interested in boozing at the food trucks than browsing the galleries. And you know what? They’re right. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The fact remains that Second Saturday is one of the biggest free parties in Miami every single month. And attendees — drunk or sober — will inevitably be exposed to some culture, whether in the form of the murals on nearly every building’s exterior or, if they stumble into one of the art spaces that remain open during the festivities, more traditional works. Get to Wynwood early if you want to glimpse shows like “Vanitas” at Pan American Art Projects (2620 NW Second Ave., Miami), showing the controversial political works of Cuban artists José Toirac and Meira Marrero. Or get there whenever you want and hang out. Saturday night was made for parties, art-adjacent or not.
