Can the Chip Ganassi Racing With Felix Sabates team superduo of American Scott Pruett and Mexican Memo Rojas pull off a back-to-back-to-back three-peat at this year’s Grand Prix of Miami? If you’re not a racing fan, that all probably sounded like nonsense. But for the sport’s diehards, it’s the question looming over everyone’s head: whether the two drivers will stand atop the podium Sunday after the Grand-Am Rolex Sport Car Series rolls through the Homestead-Miami Speedway (1 Speedway Blvd., Homestead) for a weekend of fast cars and stadium-style road racing. Rojas and Pruett are in ninth place in the series standings. Following a shaky start at the Rolex 24 in Daytona, the team drove its BMW Riley to a third-place finish last month at the Porsche 250 in Birmingham, Alabama. “It was exciting to see the 90 car get to victory lane,” Pruett said after the race, referring to the winning Spirit of Daytona team’s Corvette. “Now we’ll try to make things better for Miami.” “We were driving the wheels of the car trying to stay ahead of the 90 and the 99. We don’t have the speed they have this weekend, and it was tough to get ahead of them,” Rojas added. Who’ll take the checkered flag at Homestead? We’ll just have to wait and see.
