Attention, you delinquent sons and daughters: Mother's Day is coming up, and if you haven't already made Sunday plans, you might be freaking out about what to do. After all, how exactly do you go about thanking the woman fundamentally responsible for shaping your existence? No pressure.

You could go the traditional brunch route ... except that you'll be battling for that last open table with every other last-minute planner in the city. So why not get creative?

Show mama some appreciation at a few of our favorite Mother's Day events this Sunday, May 11, and for mom's sake, make reservations.

Create and cafe

Art Box Miami is celebrating mommies at Peacock Garden Cafe with a complimentary creative workshop. Kids can craft a special gift for mom, while adults enjoy brunch on the terrace.

"We're putting together a special edition newspaper for mothers," according to Art Box cofounder, Sofia Del Rivero. The adorable after-school program opened its doors about about a week ago at Mayfair in the Grove, and the curriculum they offer teaches rugrats about classical and contemporary art through games, sculpting, drawing, painting, installations, and more.

Preview Art Box's engaging activities at Peacock from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. 2889 McFarlane Rd., Coconut Grove; email [email protected].

Bike with your baby mama

For those looking to celebrate a little less traditionally, get mom out of the house and enjoy a free bike ride with Wynwood Mural Tours.

"It's a healthy, fun alternative" to most Mother's Day events, said artist and tour guide Ryan the Wheelbarrow. Bring your own bike for the 90-minute tour and check out the scenery in the neighborhood's outdoor street art museum.

Bike and art enthusiasts will meet at Panther Coffee at 6 p.m. for a relaxed evening. 2390 NW Second Ave.; call 305-799-3166 or email [email protected].

Make it musical

If mom wants something a little more on the classic side, Alhambra Orchestra is performing "Late Romanticism," conducted by Zoe Zeniodi and baritone soloist Hubert Wild. Alhambra is dedicated to promoting music education and helping amateur and professional classical musicians carry out their talents.

The evening's program will consist of Mahler's Songs of a Wayfarer, Bruckner's Symphony "No. 0" in D Minor, and a a composition by contemporary Greek composer Giorgos Koumendakis.

While the concert is free, donations are requested. Concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at Ransom Everglades School Auditorium. 3575 Main Hwy., Coconut Grove; call 305-668-9260.

Tap into her artistic side

No artistic ability needed at Painting with a Twist for Mother's Day. The studio's instructors take you step by step through the night's featured painting, and when you're finished, you get to keep your creation.

Twist will have five painting options to choose from for Mother's Day, as well as giveaways. Every mother who comes gets to keep the painting she creates, plus one from the studio's own library. Guests are encouraged to bring their own drinks and snacks; art supplies and canvas will be provided. Seats cost $35 per person and classes are already half full. Don't disappoint mom on her day, reserve your spots on the website now.

The first two-hour painting session begins at noon and the last at 7 p.m. 7657 Biscayne Blvd.; call 786-300-6855.
