Miami on the Lot
It’s hard not to notice longtime Miami resident Claudia La Bianca www.claudialabianca.com with her whacky, colorful outfits, bleach-blonde waist-length dreadlocks, fishbowl-shape hazel eyes, and lilting Italian accent.
Add to the mix a flair for film making and even veteran Hollywood producers Steven Spielberg and Mark Burnett couldn’t refuse the charms of the 28-year-old former painter and graphic artist.
This past February La Bianca Spielberg chose La Bianca from among 12,000 aspiring filmmakers as one just 50 to star on FOX’s reality TV show, On The Lot that premiered this past May.
“That in itself was already amazing, and I was the only Italian,” gushes La Bianca from her Wynwood loft. “I was crying like crazy from happiness, this was my first contact with Hollywood.”
To snag a coveted spot on the show, La Bianca submitted a four-minute short film titled A Cinic Angel, which she shot in Miami on a $400 budget. She was contacted by FOX and flown to Los Angeles to begin filming.
The feisty Sicilian-import battled through a series of elimination rounds and down to the final eighteen contestants. In the season’s third episode that aired this past Monday, it was time for the movie makers to show their flair for the funny, with a one-minute comedy skit.
America dialed in its votes and it was Ciao Sicilia!
La Bianca got the boot.
“What really mattered to me was not was America voted, but what the judges said,” she says. “They gave me great reviews; they told me I was natural-born filmmaker.”
The self-described “active Sicilian volcano on wheels” returned to Miami with renewed inspiration. She hopes to return to her native Italy this summer and begin shooting her first feature-length film.
“I was never even expecting to make it to the final eighteen, so for me it was a victory.”
