When the NRA publishes a list of "Organizations with Anti-Gun Policies," or what's being called its "Enemies List," there are certain names you expect to see. The American Firearms Association? Check. College Democrats of America? Check. Alec Baldwin? Check.
Then, however, there are other, more bizarre inclusions: Boyz II Men, for instance. Yeah, they're in there. Also: N*Sync. And Gloria Estefan. And Tara Lipinski. Yes, that's Olympic figure skater Tara Lipinski striking terror into the hearts of the gun lobby.
Y'know who else the NRA isn't so fond of? The Miami Herald.
The newspaper is listed in a special section for "Publication and Media Outlets," and apparently meets the following qualifications:
The following publications and media outlets have assisted in the attack on Second Amendment rights. The editorial policies of some of the media sources listed portray firearms in a negative manner in an attempt to generate public support for restrictions on firearms ownership. Others have refused some or all of NRA`s advertisements.
That section also includes NBC, The New York Times, and Rolling Stone. Somehow, it does not include New Times or our parent company, Voice Media Group. But hey, we're just as happy to be doing our thing under the radar of the guys with the guns. The Herald's down the street, guys -- don't shoot!
You can see the full, extensive, paranoia-indicating list at the NRA's website.
