The hills are alive with the sound of... fashion? OK, so there may not be any hills around South Beach, but starting today, there'll be plenty of fashion talk in the air as Miami Beach International Fashion Week (MBIFW) rolls into town with a plethora of events at the Miami Beach Convention Center.
One of the world's premier fashion events, MBIFW spotlights designers from around the globe, including Europe, Asia, the Caribbean, and the States -- yep, even some from right here in South Florida. "Attendees can expect to see over 60 designers from 22 countries coming
to Miami Beach to showcase their latest collections in swimwear,
lingerie, women's evening wear, men's wear, jewelry, and accessories,"
says Beth Sobol, president of Sobol-Perry Productions Inc., which
founded MBIFW in 1999.
And this year, Sobol says, the event will be bigger and better than ever. "We have more designers and are thrilled to
be back in Miami Beach, where we have a bigger venue and have the
capabilities of accommodating more attendees. We have also rebranded as
Miami Beach International Fashion Week and are here to stay."
The festivities will kick off today with the latest in
lingerie and swimwear from designers such as Zella Machado (Brazil),
Helen Victoria Swimwear (USA), Kanomi Swimwear (Venezuela), among many
others. On Friday, fashion enthusiasts can check out the Jamaican
showcase with designers such as POSHE by Camesha Powell, and Julan by
Juliette Dyke; while Friday evening is all about the boys with the Men's
Showcase, featuring fashion by Mauricio Alberino and Robert Flores
from the Dominican Republic.
Saturday will feature the Pret-A-Porter Style Showcase with
works from Eccentric Apparel, LUXXE Collections, and Marina
Makaron-Russia, among others. Festivities will wrap up Sunday with the
Miami Moda & Music Awards.
"Putting together MBIFW takes commitment and dedication fused together
with a love for the industry and designers," Sobol says. "Fashion has
always been part of my life, and there is no better way for me to show my
appreciation for these works of art other than to showcase them at
Miami Beach International Fashion Week."
Miami Beach International Fashion Week begins today at 6 p.m. and runs through Sunday at the Miami Beach Convention Center (1901 Convention Center Dr., Miami Beach). Visit
