Life Is But A Dream

It may sound snobbish, but some music moves beyond the commercial realm into nothing short of art. When it’s more than just a good beat and a hook, when an artist takes melody from clichéd to conceptual, that’s when things get really interesting. Teenage Fantasy is a dance duo from Canada making just that kind of music, so it’s only fitting that Pérez Art Museum Miami (1103 Biscayne Blvd., Miami) booked the group for the museum’s monthly dance show series. The old college buddies bonded over a love of house and techno, but the sweet songs they make couldn’t be classified in either genre. They bring a fresh, futuristic experimentalism to their catalogue, both energetically danceable and introspective. It conjures an atmosphere of lush and spacey soundscapes. It really does sound like the soundtrack to some pubescent darling’s inner hideaway. The performance will be live, leaving plenty of room for on-the-fly improvisations, and the pair will be joined by Seoul singer Hoody, an R&B-style vocalist seemingly custom-made to fit the duo’s dreamy sound. They’ll let loose their upcoming single, “U Touch Me,” this Thursday.
