Jump on the Animation Superhighway

Even if you haven’t played a videogame since the original Tetris (you know who you are), it’s obvious that technology in gaming and film has come a long way. Now games have become sophisticated works of art and employ the same advanced 3-D technology used in films. That’s why the 2009 Miami Winter Break Animation Festival this Sunday and Monday at the Miami Science Museum is the first fest of its kind, blending both videogames and film.

For only $5 a day (kids under 10 get in free), gamers and movie buffs alike can see hands-on demonstrations and attend workshops and screenings that feature the latest technology, including machinima (muh-SHEEN-uh-muh), which combines the techniques of filmmaking, animation production, and real-time 3-D videogames. There is something for everyone and enough high-tech wonders to make James Cameron jealous.
