On the 50th anniversary of 007, the “Jewish James Bond” is coming to the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center (3385 NE 188th St., Aventura). Running this Wednesday through March 17, Wiesenthal: The Conscience of the Holocaust stars Tom Dugan (whose credits include roles on Bones, Friends, and Curb Your Enthusiasm) as onetime Nazi-hunter Simon Wiesenthal the day of his retirement from the Jewish Documentation Center in Vienna, Austria. In a style that inspires more suspense and laughter than tears, Wiesenthal recounts to his last group of students the details of his days as a post-World War II hero. The new full-length one-man play, written by and starring Dugan and directed by Jenny Sullivan, centers on Wiesenthal’s remembrances of his death-defying escape from the grip of the S.S. and his subsequent pursuit of infamous villains such as Franz Stangl, Adolf Eichmann, Josef Mengele, and the S.S. officer who imprisoned Anne Frank. The play ran previously in Los Angeles, where it won a Drama Critics’ Circle Award and three L.A. Ovation nominations.
Sat., Feb. 16, 2 & 8 p.m.; Sun., Feb. 17, 2 p.m.; March 13-15, 8 p.m., 2013
