It’s All About the Music

If you’re a fan of orchestral maneuvers in the dark, head to the opening night of the 26th annual Festival Miami, the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music’s shindig that runs October 2 through 30. This Friday at 8 p.m., UM’s Frost Symphony Orchestra and faculty will celebrate the mad geniuses of the German romantic tradition with performances of Robert Schumann’s “Overture to Faust,” Beethoven’s “Piano Concerto No. 5,” and Johannes Brahms’s “Symphony No. 1.” Opening-night tickets cost $25 to $60, but check the event schedule for a full rooster of inspired performances. From Grammy winners to UM alums, artists such as Claudia Acuña, Shawn Colvin, Carlos Reyes, Arturo Sandoval, and Bruce Hornsby will bring Afro-Cuban jazz, American rock, and opera styles into the mix. All performances will be held at Gusman Hall on the UM campus.
Oct. 2-30, 8 p.m., 2009
