Have a Laugh Attack

You were feeling blue all week and couldn’t even crack a smile when you spied your boss tripping on the steps. So like any healthcare recipient worth her salt, you decided to go see Dr. New Times. “Doctor, I haven’t had a giggle in days. What’s wrong with me? What do I do?” you asked. The good doctor gave you the classic once-over, tapped your funny bone with that little rubber mallet, and said, “My dear, it looks like you have an acute case of comedy deficiency. Methinks you should head to the Miami Improv tonight, Saturday, and Sunday night to catch David Alan Grier’s show. Tickets cost only $26.75, way less than anything else I could prescribe.”

“But doctor, I’m not even sure that I remember how to laugh,” you admit. “Don’t worry,” Dr. New Times says. “There’s a two-drink minimum. Order two apple martinis, sit back, and let Mr. Grier perform the therapy you need. Your sides might begin to hurt and tears might come to your eyes, but that’s normal.” Grier is an expert at bringing the LOLs: As a stand-out cast member of In Living Color, he created a cavalcade of memorable characters. He was the poor sucker who let Halle Berry slink off to Eddie Murphy’s arms in Boomerang, and his characters on Crank Yankers were among the show’s funniest. Get the medicine you need tonight at 8:30 and 10:45. Call 305-441-8200, or visit www.miamiimprov.com for all of the weekend’s showtimes.
